Winrock and AKCG – Services and Solutions for a Complex World
LONDON, England and WASHINGTON DC, USA – Winrock International is a storied organisation founded by one of the Rockefeller family in Arkansas to help support economic development, sustainable agriculture and the families and communities who depend upon them. Now, over seventy years later, Winrock International is a leader in international development as well, with over $120m in project revenue annually, and works in over fifty countries around the world.
But with challenges in their target countries growing ever more tightly interdependent, and international development funding moving to address both integrated programming and complex systems, Winrock needed help adapting their scale and variety of offerings to allow a faster and more agile response to changing needs. Over the course of six months, AKCG worked intensely with their CEO and Senior Management Team to reframe their technical expertise into a modular combination of Services and Solutions suitable for a 21st century world of truly wicked problems.
AKCGlobal’s team of three conducted over 40 in-depth interviews, reviewed over 200 projects from the previous five years, and compiled a catalogue of thirty-five discrete Service Lines. Drawing from them, AKCG worked with Winrock to develop ten key offerings into a common format describing the work, outlining the unique methodology that Winrock uses to deliver it, and capture three case studies of that work and its impact.
Building on that work, AKCG and Winrock identified five complex, multi-sector and global issues – for example, combatting an aquatic deadzone the size of Connecticut or Wales in the Gulf of Mexico – building modular combinations of the Services necessary to address it over time, and across multiple international stakeholders and organisations.
